太平洋戦争
太平洋戦争とは、1941年12月8日から1945年9月2日の間、日本と、アメリカ・イギリス・オランダ・中国を中心とする国々との間で起きた戦争です。
太平洋戦争と同時期にヨーロッパで起こった戦争を合わせて第二次世界大戦といいます。
1931年に満州事変が起こり、日本は満州を支配します。次いで1937年7月7日、北京郊外で起こった盧溝橋事件をきっかけに中国との全面戦争へ突入します。
日中戦争の長期化で軍需物資が不足したため、日本は東南アジアへ進出しました。アメリカ、イギリス、オランダがこれに強く反発し日本への資源供給をやめ、経済的な締め付けを強めました。
これを打開する為アメリカと交渉をするものの、強固な条件を突き付けられた日本は、開戦に至りました。
真珠湾で開戦した日本軍ははじめは優位でしたがミッドウェー海戦で形勢が逆転し追い込まれていきました。
本土の爆撃も行われるようになり、広島と長崎の原爆投下の後、8月15日に天皇陛下の玉音放送で日本の敗戦が伝えられました。
多くの犠牲者を国内外にこの戦争はもたらしましたが、新しい日本が敗戦から生まれました。
