京都から近く琵琶湖も見られるので宿泊地としても人気です。京都駅から20分で温泉街の駅にも行けます。
大津はかるたで有名な近江神宮をはじめ、数多くの寺社仏閣史跡があります。天台宗の総本山延暦寺や浮世絵にも書かれた三井寺、石山寺、浮御堂、瀬田の唐橋等近江八景も人気です。延暦寺へはケーブルカーに乗っていけます。
大津は新しい見ものやアクティビティも多いです。琵琶湖でクルーズ船に乗ったりカヤックやパドルサーフィンを楽しめます。ナイトクルーズで噴水のライトアップも見られます。びわ湖バレイという高い所に行けば下の琵琶湖を見下ろしながらご飯を食べたりジップラインを楽しめます。
大津の食べ物は有名な近江牛、シジミ、湯葉、ブラックバスなどです。ギガ団子や海老せんべいもお勧めです。
お土産は大津の伝統的でユーモラスな大津絵のマグカップや手ぬぐい、せんべいなどを勧めます。大津を訪れるのを楽しんで下さい。
