シェルパのゲルジェさんは先月１８日、エベレストで別の登山者を案内している時、頂上に近い死のゾーンでロープにつかまったマレーシア人登山者に遭遇した。
救助を決意したゲルジェさんは案内していた登山者の登頂を断念させ、男性を背負って６００メートル下まで運び、そこでもう一人のガイドと合流し、ヘリコプターまでたどり着いた。
ゲルジェさんは今月1日のＣＮＮとのインタビューで、これまでに手がけた救助は５５回を超え、中には長時間に及んだこともあったが、今回が最も厳しかったと話した。
