明智光秀が琵琶湖岸に築いた坂本城跡で長さ約３０メートルの石垣が見つかり、大津市が７日発表した。

1582年の光秀による本能寺の変の４年後に廃城となり、現在ほとんど遺構はなく、範囲も確定していない幻の城だった。

坂本城は、当時来日したポルトガル人宣教師ルイス・フロイスが、信長の安土城に次ぐ名城として絶賛している。
