サッカー漫画の金字塔で、世界のトップサッカー選手達にも愛され影響を与えてきた「キャプテン翼」が、およそ43年にわたる連載を４日発売の雑誌で終えた。
稲本潤一さんはこの漫画に感謝し、またアルゼンチンのメディアは「大空翼が、メッシやエムバペといったレジェンドにフィールドに立つ勇気を与えてきた」と伝えている。
高橋さんは漫画家は引退するが、オリンピック編をはじめ漫画の構想を、ことしの夏以降に鉛筆描きの下絵のいわゆる「ネーム形式」で物語の続きを描いてていく。
