明日香村にある飛鳥坐（あすかにいます）神社は、神社に伝わる大型の柄鏡（えかがみ）が、日本最大の青銅鏡であることが判明したと発表した。
詳しい調査を実施したところ、直径が１２２センチ、重さがおよそ２６０キロと、日本最大の青銅鏡であることが判明した。
江戸時代の半ばに鏡は航海の安全を願って伊勢神宮周辺の社寺に奉納した後、飛鳥坐神社に運ばれた可能性があるようだ。
